In the Benelux

The Benelux Act on Designs and Models from 1966 regulates the protection of the appearance of a consumer item, such as the protection of the design of a vase, chair, car or a design of a substance. This act was replaced on 1 September 2006 by the Benelux Treaty relating to intellectual property.

After filing, you may lay claim to the right, but you will only have security following a court judgement. The protection will last for a period of five years and you can extend this four times, for a period of five years each time, up to a maximum of 25 years. Design protection in the Benelux region is possible from 118 euros.
